Michael Porter is an experienced Registered Nurse and Credentialed Diabetes educator. Areas of expertise include: Indigenous health, Insulin pump therapy, Insulin titration, public speaking and all areas of diabetes management. 
Michael has been living with type 1 diabetes mellitus for most of his life and believes that this drives his passion for diabetes management in particular  preventing / reducing the risk of short-term and long-term complications. Whilst working as the regional diabetes coordinator for the far North and Western region of South Australia he created a simple and effective way of delivering diabetes education.  The ‘Sugarman’ concept has been used in PNG to deliver diabetes education where literacy and language are real barriers. 
Michael has seen far too many patients suffer preventable complications of miss-managed type 2 diabetes  and has dedicated a lot of his spare time educating General Practitioners on the right time to commence insulin therapy.  Michael currently works full time for Roche Diagnostics in South Australia but still works most weekends teaching Aboriginal health workers, GP ‘s working in Indigenous health and Medical students.
